Is Lewis Hamilton signing with Ferrari or Mercedes for the post-2023 season? The 7-time champion’s priorities and his choice could never have been clearer. Different Ferrari stakeholders approached Hamilton multiple times this year with a plea to join their team but to no avail. It has only been a few days after that supposedly polite rejection. However, Ferrari boss Frederic Vasseur has now had enough with that topic and has given his final say on it.

The Silver Arrows have a generational talent like Lewis Hamilton driving for them. But they don’t seem to be quick on their feet when it comes to renewing his contract for the future. He is possibly the best candidate for the job, still, there has been the longest delay over this obvious re-signing. Because even Ferrari’s parent company’s CEO’s requests to join the Maranello outfit have been turned down by Hamilton with a “no thanks”, Vasseur has once again been asked about the uncertainty over the Briton’s contract. But his response this time is thunderous.

“They are in discussions and I don’t know what the issue is if there’s an issue or not,” Vasseur told Crash.net. I am not focused at all on this, I am focused on the development of the team, and the discussion is between Lewis and Toto, and not myself.”

Vasseur now seems to have had enough of this tomfoolery. Anyways, what happens now between Mercedes and Hamilton is not his concern. But for the journalists and presenters, it is a hot topic. One of the biggest names in that sphere has tried to decode why there has been this massive lag.

David Coulthard explains the holdup in Mercedes’ contract renewal with Lewis Hamilton

Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff very confidently said that Hamilton’s contract will be announced around the Canadian GP. It has been 2 months since that statement and nothing has budged. Former British racer David Coulthard believes that the slowdown is because of the multiple layers of consequences that come with signing the biggest personality in the sport.

Coulthard said, as quoted by Express, “Perhaps Lewis might be wanting to do fewer days or have fewer commitments? What Lewis will be signing up for goes way beyond him driving at a grand prix. It is about what rights he retains in terms of his image, and what rights he sells to the team. Mercedes are buying more than just Lewis’ driving services. They are buying his promotional image and his PR image.”
