Just like the cars, loyalties also turn incredibly fast in this brutal and unforgiving world of Formula 1. The drivers can be heroes in the eyes of the fans one weekend and feel their wrath the next. This is exactly what Carlos Sainz is currently experiencing in Japan, just six days after his heroics in Singapore. The fans are calling out the Ferrari man for his contradictory statements ahead of the Japanese GP as his teammate Charles Leclerc also makes his ‘return’.

The fans have a short memory but the statements a driver makes live on forever, especially in this day and age of social media. Keeping that in mind, just last week Sainz said, “I have always felt comfortable in the car.” However, as the Spaniard realized the limitations of his car on the Suzuka circuit he changed his statement.

“Even though it may seem like I’m comfortable in this car, I’m not. It’s a car that continues to give us a lot of headaches when it comes to tire degradation, race pace issues, and it still has its faults, as we saw in Singapore,” said Sainz as seen on Twitter (now X).

“The tires suffered, but I was still able to finish the race, which speaks highly of our race execution and the team’s strategy,” he concluded. Sainz’s statements and his inability to outpace Leclerc in all the practice sessions and the qualifying in Japan have showcased a two-faced side of him.

These contradictory statements about the SF-23 add to his misery as fans call him out on social media.

The fans are confused by Carlos Sainz’s comments as the scale tips towards Charles Leclerc again

Sainz’s performance in Singapore changed the outlook of the F1 world toward him. However, his inability to beat his teammates so far in Japan coupled with the statements is bringing back the old outlook.

Some disappointed fans even labeled him a liar as others highlighted his statement from last week.

The lowly P6 result in the qualifying might prove his statement correct for him.

The fans are clearly annoyed by these mind games they are accusing Sainz of. Regardless, the Spaniard can’t take back what he said. He can only prove everyone wrong by his performance on track now.
