After pursuing the legendary F1 car designer for almost three decades, Ferrari finally seems to be on the verge of securing the services of Adrian Newey for 2025. Last week several reports suggested that Adrian Newey might leave Red Bull at the end of 2024 due to him not being happy with his role at Milton Keynes. And earlier today, Red Bull officially announced that he will leave the team in 2025.

Even before the announcement, Gazzetta dello Sport had reported that Newey had met with Ferrari’s Team Principal, Frederic Vasseur in London, hinting at a potential partnership for the 2025 Formula 1 season. And now another Italian outlet, Formula Passion, has reported that several qualified sources have confirmed Newey’s arrival at Ferrari, and apparently, Lewis Hamilton seems to have played an important role in it.

Adrian Newey moving to Ferrari also makes a lot of sense because he once stated that he regrets not having worked with teams like Ferrari and drivers like Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso. And a move to Ferrari will allow him to fulfill two dreams at the same time.

According to Formula Passion’s report, Lewis Hamilton was a key player in convincing Adrian Newey to join Ferrari. He had been pushing the management at Ferrari to do all they could in order to bring Newey on board. The private meeting with Fred Vasseur along with confirmation from several Italian sources points in the direction that Newey will indeed join Ferrari in 2025.

The only thing that could have stopped Newey from joining Ferrari was his gardening period of 12 months. But, apparently, even that is not a concern as per reports. Having said that, Christian Horner was perhaps the one who received the biggest blow of all with the departure. However, that didn’t come in his way when he extended his good wishes to the outgoing team member.

How did Christian Horner react to Adrian Newey’s departure?

Horner and Newey have been together at Red Bull since the very start. So it’s only natural for Horner to get all nostalgic as he prepares to end their 19-year-old partnership. In the press release announcing Adrian Newey’s departure, Horner acknowledged the immense contribution Newey made to the team’s accomplishments over the past 20 years along with his personal connection with the British designer.

“All of our greatest moments from the past 20 years have come with Adrian’s hand on the technical tiller. His vision and brilliance have helped us to 13 titles in 20 seasons,” said Christian. “More than that, the past 19 years with Adrian have been enormous fun. For me, when Adrian joined Red Bull, he was already a superstar designer… He is also my friend and someone I will be eternally grateful to for everything he brought to our partnership.”
