2016 was the last season which gave the fans a taste of some real intra-team rivalry. Ever since then, we haven’t seen two teammates go at each other’s throats, which has perhaps created some longing for similar drama. This is mainly why fans and media keep picking at subtle hints of tensions between two teammates. In fact, hard and wheel-to-wheel racing between Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc in Monza became the talk of the F1 town. However, the two Ferrari men were unaffected by the incident, and all the media kerfuffle. This is why Sainz’s latest admission about his relationship with Leclerc has left the fans confused.
The alleged rivalry between the two gathered steam when Sainz Sr. declared war against Ferrari for favoring Leclerc. However, even then, Sainz did not take his father’s advice and wasn’t in favor of his actions. Even Leclerc ridiculed all suggestions of rivalry between the two. Sainz reiterated this scenario with his latest admission about his relationship with his teammate.
“We have always worked perfectly together,” said Sainz. “We’re always close to each other and there has never been any problem, that’s the nice thing about Ferrari, and is an advantage, but some try to see it as an disadvantage.”

If we take Sainz’s comments for face value and couple them with his actions on track and his radio messages, there is clearly no tension between the two. For them, the common objective is Ferrari’s betterment and currently finishing P2 in the constructors’ championship.
Despite many admissions from the two, the fans still hold the idea that there is a cold war brewing in the Ferrari garage, and their reaction to Sainz’s comments will highlight exactly that.
