Ferrari is believed to be still suffering from Mattia Binotto’s hangover. It won’t be until the start of next season until we see what effect has the changes made by Frederic Vasseur really done on Ferrari. Yet, Charles Leclerc hailed his Team Principal for his bubble approach as Vasseur turned a blind eye. But why exactly did Leclerc praise Vasseur if the changes made by him aren’t showing the full effect yet?
Mattia Binotto was booted from the Italian stable at the end of last year, and they brought Frederic Vasseur in to replace the Italian. It is believed that it’s extremely difficult to handle Italian media and culture. Frederic Vasseur, being French, was expected to follow in fellow Frenchman Jean Todt’s footsteps and bring the glory back to Ferrari. However, no significant steps have been taken by Ferrari in terms of performance or in terms of better strategic decisions.
Yet, Charles Leclerc hailed Frederic Vasseur for his bubble approach. What is this bubble approach? Leclerc explains how Vasseur, quite early in his Ferrari tenure, realized that the media can influence the team. With the help of Vasseur, Ferrari created a bubble to stop the media and external factors from affecting the team. Vasseur did not let the media influence him as he turned a blind eye to external factors.

According to motorsport-total.com, Charles Leclerc said, “I think we’ve created a bubble where we don’t let what’s happening outside influence us too much, and that’s really good. I think Fred was really on board and immediately understood that the media could influence the team in some way in the past, and that was one of the focus areas at the beginning of the year.” [Translated via Google]

The Italian culture, the racing heritage and just the name Ferrari bring a lot of attention from the media toward the Maranello-based team. Even a minor mistake that might go unnoticed by another team would become a headline for Ferrari. The extreme pressure from the media isn’t a suitable environment to work in. Leclerc suggested that despite being in the spotlight, Ferrari has made considerable progress in dealing with these situations.
As per Motorsport-total.com, Leclerc said, “We have made progress in this regard [External Criticism]. I don’t have the feeling that this is still the case. Of course, there are moments that are difficult to handle, but that’s the same for everyone in the paddock – even if Ferrari is always a bit more in the spotlight.” [Translated via Google]
