Thanks to one man, the 2025 silly season has become an active discussion in the F1 circles just after one race. In fact, it was a topic of conversation well before the season opener in Bahrain as the entire F1 world is discussing the future of the majority of the drivers on the grid. We know Carlos Sainz was at the forefront of this discussion with his future at Ferrari sealed. However, Fernando Alonso has also put his name in active conversation after his recent admissions, and F1 veteran expert David Croft has a solution that will solve everyone’s problem.

“First of all, I need to decide if I want to keep racing. I will need to decide that in a few races,” said Fernando Alonso after the Bahrain GP, blaming the demanding calendar for his F1 future uncertainty. This honest admission not only put his future in F1 in doubt but also put a huge question mark on his Mercedes links.

So with this hypothetical in mind and expiring contracts leaves Aston Martin with no drivers for 2025, at the moment. However, discussing the team’s future on the latest episode of Sky Sports F1 podcast on YouTube, David ‘Crofty’ Croft had an idea. He revealed how, if he could, he would actively pursue Sainz for 2025.

Crofty confessed, “They can’t attract a Carlos Sainz for instance at Aston Martin who I think if I was there I would absolutely be aggressively approaching Carlos Sainz for next year.”

The Spaniard will become the automatic leader at the Silverstone-based outfit and they have been showing promise since last season. If Aston Martin can prove they have a winning formula, Sainz wouldn’t mind joining them.

However, on the flip side, he is also being advised to join the Mercedes project if he can and not focus on Audi.

Carlos Sainz advised to shift his attention to Mercedes instead of Audi for his long-term F1 future

Ever since Sainz has been made aware of his uncertain future, he has been linked to Audi. Audi is known for its incredible output and competitiveness in every motor sporting competition they enter. However, joining the team in its first year in the circus for a soon-to-be 30-year-old F1 driver aiming for race wins, among other things, does not seem like the right move. At least according to F1 expert Karun Chandhok.

Audi aren’t going to win the World Championship in 26 27 or probably 28. They’re not. So you know for Sainz, this is the prime,” said Chandhok.

He then revealed his suggestion. “This is the prime of his career. He cannot afford to waste it with a new startup team. He needs to be trying to do everything he can to get in that Mercedes seat.

There is no doubt Sainz will have a lot of options because of the number of expiring contracts on the grid and his recent performances. However, if he’s choosing, it would only make sense to go for a top team instead of a developing team with time of the essence. Keeping that in mind, Aston Martin can try, but we’re sure the Spaniard has his sights set on Mercedes or his former team Red Bull.
