Google, why do people close their eyes while kissing? Here are a few results: “Many people close their eyes to kiss because it blocks out visual stimuli, meaning they can focus on their partner more.” Or, “When you close your eyes when kissing, your sense of touch that connects your lips is heightened.” Or, “People close their eyes while kissing to allow the brain to properly focus on the task at hand.” So Google, why doesn’t Carlos Sainz close his eyes while kissing his new girlfriend, Rebecca Donaldson? You’ve got me there.
After Sainz got a shock P2 in qualifying at the Mexican GP, Rebecca was there to congratulate him. Like any other couple, they shared a kiss, and pictures of it went viral. While they were meant to capture the sweet moment, fans couldn’t get past the fact that Sainz had his eyes wide open, like a deer caught in headlights. With all this disgust overflowing on social media, another social media move caught the F1 gossip mill’s attention.
Has the Sainz family finally accepted Rebecca into their clan?

Before Sainz and Rebecca got together, the Spaniard dated fashion expert and journalist Isa Hernaez. They were one of F1’s power couples, having been together for the better part of a decade. While everyone expected to hear wedding bells soon, what they gave us was a breakup. In the seven years they dated, Isa became a part of the family. Sainz’s sisters were her friends and his mother was like another mother figure in her life. So when they broke up, everyone expected Isa’s ties to the Sainz family to sever, too. But that hasn’t happened.

Isa has maintained a close relationship with the entire family (which may or may not include Carlos). Especially Reyes Vasquez de Castro, Carlos’ mother. Mama Sainz often recognizes and cheers Isa on whenever she posts an update. Be that as it may, it looks like the Sainz family is warming up to Rebecca as well. In this generation of virtual connections, a person’s social media activity determines a lot about their mindset (at least that’s what Instagram handle @f1gossippofficial feels).
In an update on Instagram, the handle posted a picture of Rebecca and Sainz’s sister Ana’s following list. It showed that both of them followed each other. As per the gossip mill, that’s a sign that Rebecca is finally becoming a part of the Sainz family. The caption read, “And the Sainz family seal of approval came! Carlos’ younger sister started following the model Rebecca, the Ferrari driver’s current girlfriend!”
Speaking of family, Isa recently stayed true to a vow she made to Carlos when they broke up a few months ago.

As we said earlier, Isa became a part of the Sainz family when she and Carlos dated. Seeing how Isa hasn’t let her split get in the way of her friendship with everyone else in the Sainz family, it’s safe to say that family means a lot to her (and Carlos). They broke up right before Carlos’ sister Blanca’s wedding. But they vowed to not let their breakup get in the way of family. At an event before the wedding, Isa said, “[Blanca] is a friend of mine, and she deserves all the prominence this week.”

Sainz echoed Isa’s comments and got quite teary-eyed about his sister getting married. He said, “Emotion, isn’t it? For my sister, who deserves it. It is her day, and she is very happy.” Months after they promised each other they’d prioritize family, Isa did just that. A few weeks ago, Isa posted pictures of herself on Instagram, captioning the post, “Spent Saturday with my family and it makes me so happy 🤍” Whether or not Carlos and Isa still talk, seeing this would’ve sure made the Ferrari driver happy.
