Sebastian Vettel will run his last laps in Formula 1 this weekend. That being said, his stint with Aston Martin has been disappointing, to say the least. All said and done though, the German has become a legend of the sport due to his exploits with first Red Bull and then his infamous association with Ferrari.

Vettel joined Ferrari in 2015 with the aim to emulate his childhood hero, Michael Schumacher. But in his own words, he did fail. Come 2020, the pair realized that it wasn’t to be and Vettel was told he was surplus to requirements in Maranello. Now, on the eve of his final F1 race, his ex-boss Mattia Binotto had some words to share about the 4x Champion.

As per F1 Journalist Giuliano Duchessa, Binotto said, Vettel is a great driver, we were lucky to have him for 6 years. Every fan loves Seb, and as a team we still love him. Telling him we weren’t going to renew was the hardest task of my career.” [translated via Google Translate]

At his farewell Ferrari race, during the cool-down lap, the German dedicated a song for the team from Maranello. That being said, he might have been grateful and emotional for leaving his teammates at Ferrari, but it would appear he isn’t at all happy with how the team was being and is run.

Sebastian Vettel and Ferrari weren’t arguably a great match. The team could never really get behind the German’s charge to the title and likewise, Vettel didn’t always seem up to the mark in high-pressure situations. However, the German feels the blame should squarely fall on how the team is actually run.

Vettel was asked about Ferrari’s struggles this season. His response was somewhat of a dig at his former team. He said, “I have ideas about what could be changed at Ferrari but I’ll keep them to myself. What you see from the outside is only an interpretation of what is going on. You don’t have the whole picture.” [translated via Google Translate]
