The Ferrari Boss defended Max Verstappen and Co. as he reminded Toto Wolff and Co. of their crimes after the Mercedes CEO suggested that the other F1 teams look like F2 cars in front of Red Bull. Now the Ferrari Boss fends off the accusations of bias toward Charles Leclerc by hiding behind Red Bull’s crimes. What did the Ferrari Boss say and what crime was he hiding behind?
Ferrari had a sub-par Hungarian GP with Charles Leclerc finishing P7 and Carlos Sainz finishing P8. Leclerc seemed to have a good pace during the first half of the race. However, a slow pit stop meant that the Monegasque lost positions. Leclerc even radioed his team and asked for Sainz to let him pass. Charles Leclerc was then pitted a lap earlier during the second round of pit stops undercutting the Spaniard and overtaking him.
Would you do it even if Carlos was the driver who is front?
Vasseur: "Your question assumes Charles is number one, but that's not the case. I started this job 25 years ago thinking that two drivers should be given the same support, and I have no intention of changing.

Frederic Vasseur was asked about why Charles Leclerc was pitted before Sainz, who was in front. The Ferrari Boss replied that the question is coming from the point of view that Charles Leclerc is the No.1 driver, whereas that dynamic is only followed at Red Bull. Max Verstappen seems to be getting preferential treatment over Sergio Perez. Red Bull has this dynamic of having a star driver and then a driver who supports him.
According to @vetteleclerc’s Tweet, Frederic Vasseur said, “Your question assumes Charles is number one, but that’s not the case. I started this job 25 years ago thinking that two drivers should be given the same support, and I have no intention of changing. All the teams move in this way, with the exception of Red Bull with Verstappen and Perez.”
Vasseur hid behind Red Bull’s way of working with their drivers to fend off accusations of bias toward Charles Leclerc. Vasseur specifically suggested that all other teams support both their drivers equally, but not Red Bull.

Frederic Vasseur was asked about the future Ferrari plans and how he advised on keeping both Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc even beyond 2024. However, he was then questioned about how Charles Leclerc is favored by the team and how he said that the driver’s title could only be won by focusing on one driver to which Vasseur replied by advising the journalist to not put Helmut Marko’s words in his mouth.
According to @vetteleclerc’s Tweet, Frederic Vasseur said, “No, don’t put Helmut Marko’s words in my mouth! I never said it, nor have I ever done it. I’m just saying that if you want to aim for the Drivers’ World Championship, at a certain point in the season, you have to make a choice and favor the driver who is further up in the standings. However, we are not in these conditions today.”
