Fernando Alonso once asked Esteban Ocon to defend like a lion. Now, it wouldn’t be inappropriate to call Alonso eagle-eyed after what went down at the Miami GP. The 41-year-old’s uncanny attention to detail is grabbing loads of attention. The most intriguing bit is the moment when he noticed this detail and then goes on to praise his Lance Stroll. Let’s see what the Spanish Maestro was up to.

After 20+ years of racing experience at the highest level, Fernando Alonso has become somewhat of a master. The Spaniard manages his rave from the car, directs his team about the tire strategy, and even asks the pit wall to instruct Lance Stroll about a brake balance change while the race is going on. The mental capacity of the 41-year-old is mind-boggling. Looks like the Antihero that we knew has finally gotten rid of the anti part of it.

Alonso was back to his shenanigans at Miami where he finished P3 only behind the rocketship of RB19s. During the early stages, Alonso told the team about his tire strategy as he radioed “Plan A minus 12″. However, it was later when the Spaniards shocked everyone. Alonso came on the radio and expressed how he loved Lance Stroll’s overtake for P13. Italian Journalist Roberto Chinchero was surprised to know that Alonso was watching the race on the big screen in Miami while driving in P3.

According to the F1 Nation podcast, Roberto Chinchero said, “I have just one small thing that impressed me a lot in Miami. He was driving the race, and I think he was focused on driving, he opened the radio and said ‘Very good overtaking move by Lance, great job’ How a driver can watch the screen.”

And it wasn’t the only time Fernando had appreciated his teammate. Lance Stroll drove with a broken wrist and toe in Bahrain and managed to finish in points. Fernando Alonso suggested on the team radio that Lance is his hero. However, Roberto Chinchero feels Alonso is just doing this to get rid of a negative associated with him.

Fernando Alonso hasn’t been the kindest when it comes to dealing with teammates. The most recent example is his brawl with Esteban Ocon. Alonso even went as far as suggesting at the 2022 Brazilian GP that he’s happy to only have one race left with Ocon. Roberto Chinchero explains how Fernando Alonso is trying to change that image and is working very hard towards being a good team player.

According to the F1 Nation Podcast, Roberto Chinchero said, “Of Course, it’s part of the mission he has because in the past he was judged as not a good team player Fernando and he was not. Probably now he’s pushing very hard in this direction just to show the people that he’s a very good team player. That surprised me a lot in Miami.”
