Many people thought that beating or equaling Michael Schumacher’s championship and win record would be impossible. Lewis Hamilton proved them wrong. Many questions were raised when Fernando Alonso joined the struggling Aston Martin. The Spaniard silenced all the questions. However, Alonso’s elusive milestone still looks like a far-fetched dream, as his trusted friend reveals what the ‘El Plan’ is.
Fernando Alonso and Aston Martin were the combinations that looked the most likely to threaten the Red Bull winning run. However, ever since the highs of finishing P2 in Canada, the pace of the car has suddenly disappeared. The Green team struggled to finish near the Top 5 at the Austrian and British GP. With teams like McLaren making a huge step, a win in Aston Martin’s card looks difficult for this season.
With all this happening at the forefront, Fernando Alonso’s fellow countryman and compadre Pedro de la Rosa spilled the beans on what the infamous “El Plan” is. The 41-year-old made a comeback to F1 with “the plan” in place. However, nobody knew exactly what it was. Some people assumed it was his 3rd championship, while others thought it was getting back to the front of the grid.

As per dazn.com, when Fernando Alonso was asked about what the El Plan was, he said “I think it was a way of saying, you know, Fernando returned to Formula 1 with only a plan to win again.” However, Pedro de la Rosa intervened and added, “So maybe this was ‘The Plan’, but now it’s The Mission, and now it’s the 33.”

de la Rosa’s comment suggests that the revised El Plan is to get that elusive 33rd win. Fernando Alonso last won a Grand Prix over a decade ago and looks at changing that statistic. Aston Martin will need to pull up its socks to make it possible for the Spaniard to fulfill his dream. Nonetheless, Alonso remains hopeful for the upcoming race weekend in Hungary.

Silverstone, as a track, doesn’t suit the strengths of the AMR23. The AMR23 is strong in low-speed corners, heavy braking zones, and in getting traction out of the corners. Silverstone is a high-speed track with straights and high-speed corners. Alonso suggested that the team made the best out of a difficult weekend and that he looks forward to Budapest and is hopeful for a great result.
According to Motorsport.com, Fernando Alonso said, “We need to see also the tires, obviously the first race that we have this new construction. So things that maybe we need to analyze more in detail but, all in all, I think we saved a very difficult weekend. Hopefully, in Hungary, we are again competitive.”
