Fernando Alonso’s success story with Aston Martin has been the highlight of the season so far. The Spaniard’s mental capacity and strategic calls from the cockpit while driving are appreciated by everyone. It’s like Alonso always thinks two steps ahead. This ability also comes in handy, as Alonso made a master plan to extend his Aston Martin contract. The change in fortune has triggered Alonso to change his behavior. Fernando Alonso was infamous for his Villainous image in the past, the Spaniard’s unworldly radio calls and snarky comments in the media gave him that image. However, Aston Martin seems to have done some kind of magic on the Spaniard as he’s being the ‘Mr. Nice Guy’ now. Whether it is helping his teammate, appreciating the team who messed up his winning chances at Monaco, or in general saying pleasant things about everyone in the F1 world, Alonso seems to have become the Hero of F1. 

However, Peter Windsor suggested multiple reasons why Fernando Alonso is being the nice guy in F1. The 41-year-old hasn’t been in a competitive car for a long time and is now scoring podiums every other weekend. Alonso left McLaren and Alpine on a sour note. His GP2 comments in the McLaren days and Esteban Ocon’s comments during the Alpine ones made sure that those teams would think twice before signing him again. However, the Spaniard is making sure that everyone likes him at Aston Martin so that he can stay a little longer and hopefully get a title-challenging car.

According to Peter Windsor’s YouTube video, he said, “I think he’s very wary of being Mr. Perfect for Aston Martin and trying to extend his longevity at Aston Martin for the next two-three years. The more Mr. nice guy he is and the more helpful to Lance he is, the better. That’s what we’re seeing with Fernando at the moment.”

Windsor explained how everyone is hyping up the Spaniard once again and recognizing his talent and skills. This also plays a crucial role in his nice guy image. As suggested earlier, being in a top team and getting mega results is a major part of why Alonso is happy with the team. All the frustration from the past seems to have gone away, putting Alonso in a better state of mind. 

Explaining this new image, Peter Windsor in his YouTube video said, “I think Fernando at the moment is being Mr. Nice guy. A) Because it’s so nice to be back on the podium. B) Because everybody is around him again, telling him how wonderful he is. When in the past, 3-4 years ago, it was only Peter Windsor and Nigel Roebuck saying that. And now everybody is jumping on the bandwagon ‘ Oh Fernando what a great megastar he is’. He always has been, never went away.”
