“GP2 Engine! GP2 Engine! Argh!” screamed a frustrated Fernando Alonso during the 2015 Japanese GP. This anger came after he was constantly subjected to the horribly slow McLaren-Honda disaster. The Japanese manufacturer had gotten it so wrong that 2015 turned out to be the worst in the history of the 60-year-old Woking-based team. However, things never really improved, as in 2017 we heard Alonso giving much sarcastic feedback to McLaren when he said, “The engine feels great! Much slower than usual”. However, the tides of 2026 regulations change may see Fernando Alonso relive his nightmare.
Fernando Alonso is a very happy man at his new motoring home, Aston Martin. He is so happy that he has just been showering compliments on the team, their development, and even his teammate, Lance Stroll. Though the team using the Mercedes power trains is currently beating them in the championship run, they may still look to revamp with the coming 2026 regulations.
According to Curato, Honda may come back into the Spaniard’s life. The report suggested that Aston Martin will change riders in 2026. Which may seem to point in the direction of Honda. The Japanese brand is the worst nightmare of the two-time world champion because of his three-year stint with a no-opt-out clause at McLaren.

And while Honda looks to stay on the grid post-2026, they will look at options. However, Red Bull already seems out of that race as they have joined forces with Ford. And given their history with the Woking-based outfit, the option that might be left is Aston Martin.
While this nightmare seems to knock at his doors, his 16-year-long chase for his third title may not be over. Fernando Alonso wants that third title. But can Aston Martin make it happen?
