Fernando Alonso returned to Formula One at the start of the 2021 season. The 2-time world champion had taken a couple of years off from the pinnacle of motorsports. As of now, his current contract with the Alpine racing team expires at the end of the 2022 season. And there has been some questions about whether he would continue racing next season.

But the Alpine driver shut down those reports and mentioned that he would like to continue for a couple of more years. Alonso mentioned he has a lot more to give to the sport and can achieve better results.

“I still have a lot to offer. Right now I am enjoying Formula 1 a lot. I enjoy racing, I am enjoying all the things because Formula 1 is not only the activity on the track, you have a lot of activities off the track and I also enjoy them, so I think that at least two or three years I hope you see me around here,” said Alonso. Alpine have been running in the midfield for quite some while now and their current performance doesn’t give hopes for anything more. So it would be a huge decision to make for the 2-time world champion if he decides to continue with the team.

It seems unlikely that they will be contending for race wins and championships regularly anytime soon. However, seeing the pace of Mclaren and other former mid-field teams like Aston Martin, Alpine does have a great chance of holding on to that P4 in the constructors’ championship.
