A hat trick to start the season is something that both Aston Martin and Fernando Alonso wouldn’t have had on their bingo cards this year. This has further renewed the chants of “Como 33,” i.e., the 33rd career win for Alonso in F1! While there might be a different motivation for the team, Fernando Alonso’s intentions and motivation behind racing at the pinnacle of motorsport remain clear.

The return of the 41-year-old to Formula 1 was much anticipated in 2021. He came back with a powerful will after having won the World Endurance Championship and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. And though he bagged only a single podium that year, he remains ever so strong in his determination to win. What keeps him driving? His goal of winning the third world championship, which has only strengthened after the performance of Aston Martin’s AMR23.

While it may be looking difficult for the current season, the Spaniard’s intention remains clear: to help the team and win the third world championship for himself. And for this, he has even asked the team to stay ready!

As quoted by Motorsport, Alonso said, “Still, I always believe this is possible – so I keep racing. It is clear that this is a very serious struggle that requires you to overcome many difficulties because we are now facing strong teams that dominate our sport. But what makes me continue to compete and train every day is my belief that I can win my third championship.”

The veteran has had a glorious and illustrious career in F1, having made his debut in 2001. Two championships, 33 race wins, and 101 podiums later, one might think picking the three best moments would be a difficult task. It might be for others, but not for Fernando, who has his picks ready.

He listed his top three moments: “I can easily count three: The first is of course the first championship I won with Renault, the first victory I got with the second Ferrari, the third is my first podium with Aston Martin,” he said while reaffirming the championship moment as his favorite.
