After the Spanish win over England at the FIFA Women’s World Cup yesterday, a revelation must be dawning upon us. Spaniards, in all forms of sport, have been subliminally competitive and dominant. Be it Tennis, with World No. 1, Carlos Alcaraz or Fernando Alonso in Formula 1. Even though at the pinnacle of motorsport, F1, Alonso only has two world championships to show for, he is a bonafide legend of our sport. That being said, while he waits to conquer F1 once again, he surely has his eyes set on conquering Spain!

Spain has delivered racing talents sparsely. But when they have, these drivers have been superstars! One such example is the family-run racing business of Carlos Sainz Sr. and Carlos Sainz Jr. While the younger of the two is on a mission to etch his name alongside Ferrari in F1, his father is already a legend of the motorsport industry. But Fernando Alonso has no love for his fellow compatriot Sainz or his iconic father as he chases Senior’s crown.

Carlos Sainz Sr. has the distinct privilege of being a 3x Dakar Rally champion. And while Alonso is realistically chasing his 3rd F1 world championship, in the background, his eyes are firmly set on Sainz Sr.’s throne.

During the latest episode of the High-Performance Podcast with ex-F1 presenter Jake Humphrey, Alonso revealed, “I would love to win a third championship again but it’s not the highest priority. I will try 99% Dakar again, winning Dakar one day is a high priority as well. If I win in F1, endurance racing and in Dakar that will fill for me something special.”

Alonso can boast of an illustrious F1 career with many highlights. And while he chases Dakar glory, a special accolade is waiting just around the corner.

Alonso is just one win away from racing immortality

In the long list of racing heroes, only Graham Hill can boast of being the holder of the Triple Crown of Motorsport. With an Indy500, Monaco GP and Le Mans win under his belt, the Brit is the only driver to complete this holy trifecta. But Fernando Alonso could be joining him soon!

Alonso has already won Le Mans twice with Toyota in 2018 and 2019. And in terms of Monaco, he won back-to-back Grand Prix’s in the principality in 2006 and 2007 with Renault and McLaren, respectively. And with his racing acumen only getting sharper, it’s just a matter of time before he masters the Indy500, too.
