Alpine driver, Fernando Alonso, has revealed that the 2021 season ended with the right result after a major controversy took place at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The result sent shock waves around the world, with many questioning the result after the race.

Now, Alonso has given his view on how the 2021 season concluded. During the launch of the new A522, the Spaniard said, “The new president wanted to make sure everything was right. As I said before, I like Mohammed. I like his approach.”
“If he thought we needed new things, I think he did it for the good of everyone. So I’m glad. I have a different view of Abu Dhabi,” Alonso added.
“I don’t think there’s anything wrong there.” I hope they didn’t change the race director because of what happened in Abu Dhabi.” he concluded.
At the controversial season finale, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen overtook Lewis Hamilton on the final lap, after a last-minute change by former race director Michael Masi. With the win, Verstappen went on to pick up his maiden World Championship in a dramatic fashion. Meanwhile, Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton had to settle for second and put his goal of winning the 8th World Championship on hold.

What’s in store for Fernando Alonso and Alpine in 2022?
Alpine teammate Esteban Ocon, who had an impressive season in 2021, winning the Hungarian Grand Prix, agreed with teammate Alonso about the changes at the top. The French driver faced numerous hurdles with the officiating throughout the 2021 season and welcomed the major changes in the new season.

The Alpine drivers will look to hit the ground running in 2022, with a new era beginning this year. Till now, Alpine have suffered some major reliability issues during pre-season testing in Barcelona, with both drivers struggling to compete with other teams in terms of the most laps completed.
The new F1 season begins in Bahrain at the Sakhir Grand Prix on 18-20 March. Alpine will be bolstered by the new regulations in place.

We will have to wait and see how the season shapes up for Alpine. Furthermore, I’ll be interesting to see Alpine’s progression from last year, as Otmar Szafnauer takes over as Team Principal in a major structural change at the top of the pile.
