Fernando Alonso has had an interesting time in Formula 1, to say the least. With Renault, he established his championship-winning legacy in 2005 and 2006. He then moved on to McLaren for a torrid 2007 alongside future 7x champion, Lewis Hamilton. Back to Renault, and an underwhelming few years with Ferrari then followed, culminating in a disastrous second spell with McLaren that ended in tears for Honda. Now, in 2023, he’s with Aston Martin, and it looks as though he’s ready to give Honda a second chance.
In Aston Martin, Alonso has a team now that can potentially fight for championship glory. However, it needs to be a complete package that can propel the Spaniard to that elusive 3rd world title. After a torrid few years in the sport, Honda has now become the benchmark for being an Engine supplier. With an already good car underneath him, does Alonso have the motivation to partner once again with Honda to complete the puzzle?

Fernando Alonso tipped to reconcile with Honda
Even if Alonso will be entertaining to mend the bridges burned at Honda, it wouldn’t be out of remorse. And the end of the day, Alonso wants that 3rd championship for himself and is willing to go to any extent possible to get it. But is Honda the answer?

According to his ex-teammate at Renault, Giancarlo Fisichella, “Fernando Alonso is getting older, but he is getting faster. I don’t know how he can do it!” While talking to Sky Sports News, Fisichella concluded, “I think that Fernando, with a good car, can win another Championship.”
This begs the question then, should Aston Martin be targeting the best Engine on the grid after all?
As it turns out, this new alliance is closer to fruition than you’d think.

Huge Aston Martin news being awaited
If Aston Martin chooses to go the Honda way, then they’d be ditching Mercedes. However, if the long-term prosperity of the team has to be considered, then an alliance with Honda is the only one that makes any sense right now.

And according to Crash.net, “Aston Martin will announce the partnership with Honda on Wednesday. The collaboration from 2026 has been mooted over the last few months, with Aston Martin seeking a ‘works deal’ to ensure they have the best chances of title glory.”
