Formula One came back in action after a 2-week break. While the fans were excited about Fernando Alonso’s precious milestone of 350 races, they were eventually disappointed as the Spaniard bowed out owing to a DNF. Alpine had a nightmarish restart at the Singapore Grand Prix, as after Alonso, Ocon’s car gave out too.

Fernando Alonso has had 4 DNFs so far this season. 2 of those have come in the last two races. His teammate Esteban Ocon, on the other hand, has had 2 DNFs, of his own. The double-DNF in Singapore meant that the Alpine had to bow out without adding any points to their tally.
Fernando Alonso points to reliability issues with the Alpine car
Fernando Alonso was visibly upset after back-to-back DNFs that ruined his 350th Formula One race. He did not shy away from blaming his team for him being 60 points short. He felt that if he did not have reliability issues with the car, he could have been competing with the likes of Mercedes.
Alonso repenting the loss of one of his finest years said, “It hurts to think that in one of my best years we lost more than 60 points in reliability.” [Translated using Google]
“If you add 60 points to me and take them away from the others, because they are points they wouldn’t have scored, my season would be comparable to Mercedes’,” continued the two-time world champion.
When pointed out that his teammate Ocon too had bowed out of the race owing to engine problems, the Spaniard took another dig. He said, “But he was out of the points. It’s not as bad as for me who was in dots.”
The only silver line for Alonso this season
Alonso felt remorseful about losing another 8-10 points at the Singapore Grand Prix. The Aston Martin-bound driver, however, found something to cheer about the current season.

Fernando Alonso is set to leave Alpine at the end of this year. With Sebastian Vettel announcing his retirement from Formula One, one seat was left vacant next year at Aston Martin. The 41-year-old Spaniard pounced on the opportunity and decided to leave Alpine.
The current season has been disappointing for him, to say the least. Fans would hope that the 2005 and 2006 champion will get a car to match his stature next year.
