Red Bull’s golden boy, Max Verstappen, recently bagged a win at the Japanese Grand Prix and dawned the title of the World Driver’s Champion for the second season in a row. Red Bull emerged as a dominant team this season, even though this wasn’t the case when the season had just begun. Fernando Alonso credits Max’s skill-set as he shows his admiration toward the Dutchman in a recent interview.

Max, now is the second youngest bi-champion in the league. The first youngest driver to achieve this was Sebastian Vettel. However, Fernando Alonso has also dawned the bi-champion title win in the season of 2006.

Keeping in mind that winning a bi-champion title isn’t a walk in the park. It requires unwavering time, dedication and effort of the entire team. And each individual, including the driver, has to do their part diligently. Without this balance, it all just falls apart.

Highlighting Max‘s hard work, Fernando said, “You cannot teach that. I think it has to come from yourself. There are drivers that they need more time, they need to study more data, they need all the Friday to analyze and compare with a team-mate and slowly make little steps until they are 100% ready for qualifying.”

“And there are others that are 100% in FP1. Max is one of those and he has been always like that from go-karts to now. It should not be a surprise for anyone,” he said in conclusion.

The Dutch Lion gets into the nitty-gritty of his learnings. He highlights that the skill to adapt through various forms of discomforts- that range from the weather to the car and the road conditions are the most essential.

In an interview, Max said, “It’s practice as well, and in general, understanding what to do.”

“You can practice it, but you also need to understand what you’re practising. From a young age, my dad has been working a lot with me to try to understand changes on the kart at the time. Because at the end of the day, the mechanics are pretty similar. It just is more advanced in Formula 1. But going out and actually really feeling what is the difference.”

Talking about how he navigates the car, he said, “If you’re driving into dry and suddenly it starts raining, you have to adapt really quickly or the other way around. So that’s things you learned from a young age.”

Sharing his thoughts on his performances and hardships, the Dutchman in conclusion said, “Sometimes, when you look back at the wins this year, they look easy. But I have come from quite far back.”
