Fernando Alonso has recently opened up on the upcoming F1 season. The Spaniard expressed that he’s readier than ever for the 2022 season with the Alpine F1 team. This will be Alonso’s second season with the French team.
Fernando joined Alpine in 2021. The two-time world champion has replaced the outgoing Daniel Ricciardo. Moreover, this is Alpine’s second year in the sport as well. Last year Renault rebranded their name to the sports car brand to give it more global recognition.

Talking about his preparation, Alonso conveyed to Forbes as published by Motorsport, “At this point, I feel much better than last year. I was able to train well, work in the simulator and feel 100% ready for a very busy year. The cars will improve by a few decimals each race because it will be very easy to make progress at the beginning.” (Quotes translated using Google translate)

“We have to try to be fast, not just on the track, but also in the factory. After four or five races, there will only be one or two teams that can win each race and the other teams will copy them. Next year, all the cars will be the same.”, the 40-year-old further stated.
What’s in for Fernando Alonso and Alpine this season?
Alpine has launched their F1 Challenger named A522 for 2022. The team has recently signed a sponsorship deal with BWT, an Austrian company. Despite excelling so much off the track, the on-track performance hasn’t been quite great for the French team.

The team finished in P5 last season with 155 points, just ahead of AlphaTauri. The most remarkable performance among all 22 races was the Hungarian Grand Prix. Esteban Ocon won the race in Hungary ahead of Lewis Hamilton.
Much credit goes to Fernando Alonso as well for his immense defense against a resilient Hamilton. The Spaniard finished the race in P4. Alpine decided to retain both Ocon and Alonso for the new season.

As for now, the new season is not turning out well for Alpine. The team suffered technical problems in testing. Alonso further stated that a team needs way too much testing before they can move forward with the car, and in that place, other teams are ahead of Alpine. Despite such a start, it’ll be interesting to see where does the UK-based team ends up at the end of the season.
