2022 is going to be Alpine’s second season in the sport. They’ve come in after Renault decided to rebrand themselves after their luxury car’s brand name. Once Renault was one of the top teams in F1, now they have settled for a position in the mid-field.

Talking about this with Motorsport.com, the 40-year-old driver conveyed, “For now, we don’t have answers and I think we will have to wait to see how the first races unfold and understand what we need from the car and the package. I have no idea if the future will be 2022 or 2025, but here is a compromise that I share, that’s clear. I think we can have a good opportunity.”

What makes Fernando Alonso believe in Alpine?

2022 is all about new regulations in Formula 1. The sport has gone through a whole lot of changes, unlike any other. Alonso emphasized this further by stating, “With these new rules starting this year, in the short to medium term, Alpine should be able to fight for the title. That’s why we’re here and we work so hard. There’s also a budget cap and that gives every team a chance.”

On a pleasant note, the French team has performed quite well in the Barcelona testing despite Alonso’s car emitting smoke. Both Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon tested the A522 to the max. However, Alpine had to face some difficulties in Bahrain as well. Despite all that, Esteban Ocon set the pace on day 2 very well. The French team completed a total of 238 laps on day 2 of the pre-season test at Bahrain.
