As time is ticking by, the question mark on the future of Lewis Hamilton growing bigger. The Brit is yet to sign a contract extension with Mercedes and the entire world of F1 is starting to wonder two things. First, with his advanced years and the poor results, will Hamilton want to retire from the sport? The other is, if Hamilton decides to hang around for a few more years, will he want to stick around during this downfall of the Mercedes team? However, according to some, there is a third option and Fernando Alonso has already showcased it’s a viable option.
Most discussions and speculations around Hamilton’s future have been because of his age. The Brit is 38 years old and entering the twilight of his career. However, the third option, according to Paul di Resta, as quoted by GPBlog, of stepping away from the sport and rejoining or continuing well within his 40s is an option. According to Di Resta, the former F1 driver, Hamilton still has plenty of time and “drive” left in him, and Alonso has already paved the way for Hamilton to walk on this path.
“For sure, I mean you can’t doubt having a name like Lewis to come and what he has done in motorsport,” expressed di Resta about Hamilton joining WEC.

“Lewis has a lot of racing left in him for sure, if you look what Fernando is doing in the age, it’s really a number,” he concluded.

We are not sure how long Hamilton will continue in the premier class. However, apart from Di Resta, other F1 entities also believe we won’t see the last of the Brit anytime soon.
Former world champion believes retirement will not suit Lewis Hamilton

Amidst the uncertainty about his future, the Brit has been given many suggestions and options. Adding to the list, the 1997 F1 world champion turned WEC driver at 52 Jacques Villeneuve is also sharing his side of the experience with Hamilton.
The Canadian said, “So you need a little break. Because not every driver is actually passionate about racing and driving. A lot of drivers are passionate only about F1. Lewis seems to be passionate about driving, but until a driver is out of F1, you don’t know. You really don’t realise.”
