Many people believe in the fact that age does not matter. However, in a sport like Formula 1, it does. One can only sustain the G forces and pressure of being in an F1 car for so long. Fernando Alonso isn’t getting any younger. In a recent interview, the Spaniard talked about his dream record and how he has given up on it as the time to break it has probably passed away. What is the dream record and why is it not achievable anymore?
After 5 terrible years at McLaren, the Spaniard joined F1 back again with the hopes of winning championships, and hence the “El Plan” came into existence. Max Verstappen already explained how Alonso is very talented. The Dutchman believes that the 41-year-old has won very little with respect to the talent and time devoted to the sport. Alonso became a two-time-world champion before he turned 25 and came close to winning the world titles in 2007, 2010, and 2012.

Fernando Alonso’s move to Aston Martin has reignited his dreams of winning a third championship. The 41-year-old still believes in winning races and championships and strives to win and break the record for world championships. However, the Spaniard was recently asked whether he still plans on winning 7 world titles to equal Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton’s records. He replied that it is the ultimate goal, but realistically the opportunity has already flown by.

According to F1Maximaal.nl, Fernando Alonso during an interview with Bang and Olufsen said, “If you’ve been racing as long as I have, then at some point you’re going to break records. In the end, you just want to win and win championships, so that’s actually the only record you strive for. It’s the ultimate goal, but I also remain realistic and I also know that, that opportunity probably flew by.” When asked about winning the title, the Spaniard replied “It’s the goal, but I don’t see it happening this year.”
Fernando Alonso is a very competitive driver and will race till the time his body allows him to. The dream to win the championship is still alive. However, the realistic expectation for this season differs from winning the championship. The Red Bull cars look strong and seem to have already sealed the championship.

Fernando Alonso on winning his third title this year
Aston Martin had a tough 2022. But the seeds sown by Lawrence Stroll in terms of investments and hiring are now showing results. However, Fernando Alonso suggested keeping their feet on the ground. Red Bull is still far ahead of them. The team needs to develop a lot to make up for the pace difference. The team believes the 2023 season is all about getting to know the car better.

During the interview with Bang and Olufsen, Fernando Alonso said “That’s the aim for sure but I think at the moment we have to keep the feet on the ground. The aim for the team is just to have a good season. They were struggling a lot in 2022, so I think we have to start walking before we run. And I think this 2023 campaign is just about getting better, getting to know the car better”
