The 2022 season brings new regulations to the sport. It has nearly wiped the slate clean in terms of hierarchy in the paddock. This has benefited the likes of Alpine and Haas who have climbed the rankings. However, so far this season Alpine has experienced a mixed bag of results. Although Alpine has been doing alright, Fernando Alonso has had a far from ideal start to his season.

Unfortunate Fernando Alonso
Both Esteban Ocon and Fernando Alonso have driven brilliantly in the opening races of the season. However, while Ocon sits P6 in the driver’s standings with 14 points, Alonso is languishing down in 13th with just 2 points to his name. This has majorly been down to the Spaniard’s luck deserting him.
Fernando Alonso finished 9th in the Bahrain GP due to a strategy call that did not go their way. He reached Q3 in Jeddah and was looking on course to a solid finish in the points when he had to retire due to a suspected engine failure.
Alonso commented on his misfortune, “it’s disappointing to have only two points after two great weekends. The pace seems a little bit better than what the results say.”
He also added “I could be sixth or seventh in the championship and I’m not in that position,…It’s just because we didn’t maximise the points.”
It is clear that the Alpine car has pace this season with them reaching Q3 on both occasions and even out-qualifying Mercedes in Saudi Arabia. Their strong start to the season currently sees them sitting fourth in the constructor’s standings.
Red hot midfield

The battle in the midfield looks to be intense this season. Alpine, Alfa Romeo, Haas are all in it this season along with AlphaTauri and McLaren as well. The first 2 races of the season have seen a tightly packed midfield duke it out through the race.
Currently, alpine leads the fight for the best of the rest with 16 points. Haas is right behind them with 12 points. Alfa Romeo sits in P6 in the constructors one point above AlphaTauri. With the next race in Australia, we could notice some shake-ups in this order.
