Fernando Alonso sported the blue-yellow car and suit in Abu Dhabi on Friday. The former champion was reunited with his championship-winning car of 2005 and 2006, and the whole paddock was excited as the Renault R25 engine’s purity roared across the circuit.
Alonso won his two world championships with the R25. He retired from Formula 1 at the end of 2018, driving for McLaren. Renault announced earlier this season that Alonso will come back with them in 2021, returning for a third stint with the team.
Renault is rebranding themselves as Alpine after this season. Thus, the demonstration was to celebrate Renault’s time in Formula 1. However, as Alonso was driving the sublime beauty, he realized what Formula 1 is missing.

He said, “It’s an amazing feeling. I’m still smiling. I have the mask on but I will be smiling until probably 2021.

“Honestly I cannot go slow with this car. Every time I’m in this cockpit and I’m in this car, with all the memories, it becomes natural to drive fast.
“To feel the speed is amazing.”
Alonso further admitted that even if the car is old, it is a perfect machine for him. We saw him swerving through the corners, kissing the apexes, and really being one with the R25. It was the best way to bid the Enstone-based team a farewell.
