The 2022 Fernando Alonso is a changed man as compared to the 2018 version. The Spaniard left the premier racing competition to try his luck in some other competitions. Alonso wanted to be the second driver after Graham Hill to win the legendary Triple Crown. An elusive title only the winners of Monaco GP, Indy500, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans can claim.
The Alpine pilot has won two of the three in the Monaco GP and 24 Hours of Le Mans. Although, for Alonso to claim the unofficial title, he still needs to win the Indy500. However, the two-time world champion is focusing all his energy on Formula 1. And does not plan to race in Indianapolis again.

In an interview, Alonso shared the dismissal of his desire to claim the Triple Crown. He said, “It’s less of a goal now, I have to say,” and emphasized, “I’m fully focused on Formula 1. And if I stop there, I don’t know if I’ll be tempted again to try it. It’s not an absolute no, but I would say it’s less of a project.”

In 2022, the Indy500 will again fall on the same day as the Monaco Grand Prix. Alonso missed the race in Moncao in 2017 to compete in the Indy500. But as per Alonso, Formula 1 is the priority now. So we can be sure the Spaniard will race in Monaco in the Alpine single-seater.

The two-time world champion is out of contract after the current season. Even though Alonso is performing brilliantly in the Alpine. His future is still undecided! “I’d rather have a new front or rear wing than three years less under my belt. That would bring better performance,” said Alonso, when questioned about his age being a factor.
Alonso is still at 100% according to him, but Alpine does not have a lot of options. Esteban Ocon has a valid contract and the reserve driver, Oscar Piastri, is itching for a seat for the 2023 season. It will be difficult for Alonso to keep his seat. Especially if Alpine decides to not lose out on Piastri, and secure their future.
