Toto Wolff has spoken about the returning world champion, Fernando Alonso, to the grid for the 2021 season. The Spanish driver will drive for Alpine, Renault’s newly morphed team.

Wolff had made comments on how Alonso can make a difference in the sport and also thinks that the Spanish driver has the talent and would put up a fight in 2021. Daniel Ricciardo had the same thoughts and stated that he wouldn’t need any help to settle back into the Renault team, now Alpine.

Alonso would return to Alpine making this third stint with the French team. He won back-to-back world titles with them and will hope to bring that mentality to the grid for the upcoming season.

Fernando Alonso is a fighter says, Wolff

Toto Wolff said, “The interesting thing here is the comparison of the very young, these almost-teenagers, with the 40-year-olds. Fernando is one of the most talented drivers and one of the strongest fighters who will be competitive. Alonso will want to show that he can still do it, I’m quite sure.” (translated via Google)

The 39-year-old will be one of the oldest drivers on the grid, alongside Kimi Raikkonen. However, the Spanish driver won two world-titles under his belt with the French team and is gaming to get that mindset back for 2021. Verstappen even laughed about when told that Alonso could be his dad.

The Spaniard will take on 2021 despite his accident

In February Alonso suffered an accident while biking in Switzerland. According to the reports, he had some fractures, and a broken jaw but would be fit for pre-season testing in March. Alpine even put out a message stating that Alonso is fine and would be on the grid for the first race.
