Fernando Alonso said no to retirement and signed a contract renewal with Aston Martin. The next big thing? He will be racing in Formula 1 until the 2026 season and will experience the regulation changes. It looks like Alonso is still hungry for the world championship title, and Aston Martin has just given him a deal he couldn’t resist.

Not only does the contract come with handsome financial benefits, but it also comes with the promise of a better car next year. Aston Martin has been on a path to make some infrastructural upgrades that will propel them ahead in the pecking order. Team owner Lawrence Stroll has once made a promise to make Alonso a champion again, and with a new Honda part in their cars, they will push their pace closer to the Red Bulls.

During the F1: Beyond the Grid podcast, Aston Martin Ambassador Pedro de la Rosa talks about the upgrades Aston Martin is bringing in to make the car more competitive in the future. Talking about the Japanese Grand Prix, Rosa said, “You could argue if he’s peaking at this moment in his age. At his age, even now, in the last race we had in Suzuka, he was outstanding from Friday to Sunday.”

Explaining the upgrades, he stated, “So great commitment, and it just gives great credit to the whole project: our new wind tunnel, new campus, new simulator, everything that’s going on. And people might not know, but it’s just happening.”

The brand ambassador then spoke of Aston Martin’s ties with Honda, saying, “For random, knows are also endorsement of them, the Honda project as well, because they’re gonna be full-on Honda, and Red Bull gonna go with a Red Bull powertrain.”

Explaining that Aston Martin now has Red Bull power, he explained, “So maybe they’re gonna have, you know, the Honda Element of whatever Red Bull had been benefiting from is gonna be unplugged from them.” After discussing everything going on for the Silverstone outfit, he concluded by saying, “It’s only gonna get better with its wind tunnel.” With rumors of Lance Stroll leaving F1 after this season, de la Rosa shared some insights on that too.

Pedro de la Rosa’s take on Lance Stroll

Lance Stroll has been rumored to drop off the grid after this season, and Rosa was not going to let it go off so easily. He spoke about Stroll’s seat and said, Why should Lance not continue? There’s every reason to continue in the team with all the projects – that’s the reason why Fernando decided to stay.

Defending the Aston Martin owner’s son, Rosa further stated, “He’s had two incredible races in Jeddah and Australia. There were some parts of the race where he was faster than Fernando.” Considering everything that Aston Martin is investing in, it only makes sense that Lance Stroll continues driving for his father’s team. There is a lot in store for the 2025 season from the Silverstone outfit, and Stroll can use the season to prove everyone wrong.

That being said, do you think Lance Stroll will renew his contract with Aston Martin too? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
