Over the weekend, the world of motorsports witnessed truly horrifying behavior from karting driver Luca Corberi. Two video clips featuring the Italian driver demonstrating truly vilifying behavior towards a rival went viral.
Following the traction gained by the video clips, the President of the FIA’s karting commission, Felipe Massa, reacted to the incident and affirmed that strict action will be taken.
The first video clip showed Corberi waiting at the side of the track with a ‘bumper’ from his crashed kart in hand, waiting for the cars to pass by. He then hurled the bumper into the path of Paolo Ippolito.

Following that, another video clip emerged of Corberi landing punch after punch on Ippolito at parc ferme once the race came to an end.
Massa recently broke his silence on the matter via social media. The story he posted along with a still of the two incidents read, “This behavior is unacceptable in our sport. Those individuals will face the consequences of their actions.”
Following the incident, the FIA decided to launch an official investigation to dig deeper into the root of the matter.
The statement issued by the FIA read, “The FIA and ACI are deeply concerned by the disturbing events that occurred yesterday during the FIA Karting KZ World Championship in Lonato, involving drivers, team members, and track officials.

“The FIA has launched an immediate investigation of the incident.”
For his behavior, Corberi was rightly disqualified from the event. Paolo Ippolito, the one who faced Corberi’s wrath, was also disqualified from the event. His collision with Corberi was the starting point of the whole fiasco.
Apart from Felipe Massa, a former World Champion also reacted to the incident

Former F1 driver Jenson Button was one among many motorsport stars who voiced their thoughts on the ugly incident. The Briton made his anger apparent and did not hold back on his remarks, demanding life bans for both Corberi and his father (who owns the track).
Button said, “Luca Corberi has just destroyed any chance he had at a racing career after his disgusting behavior today at the FIA Karting World champs. His father owns the circuit and is seen power driving the guy into a wall. Life ban for both of these idiots please.”
