“Your ups and downs in sports, I think they are as normal as daily life: One day you wake up and feel great, the next day you wake up and feel maybe less great.” -Michael Schumacher. Who would’ve thought that the incident in 2013 would leave all of us in a less great state for a decade? An F1 legend reflects on the good old days spent with Michael Schumacher as he sympathizes with the 7X World champion.

Michael Schumacher is arguably the greatest F1 driver to ever grace the tarmac with 7 titles and 91 race wins to his name. The German is highly praised for turning Ferrari’s fortunes around and winning 5 consecutive championships with the Italian stable. Unfortunately, just a year after retiring from F1, Schumacher met with a major accident while skiing during the winter in 2013. This resulted in head trauma and led to a coma. F1 legend Giancarlo Fisichella recently recalled the good old memories with Michael Schumacher.

Fisichella advised that he shared a great relationship with Schumacher as he praised the German for his character. The Italian recalled how Schumacher shared the same passion for football as him. As Fisichella recalled all the good old memories with the German, he mourned about Michael’s current state advising how fate can be so cruel.

According to corriere.it, Giancarlo Fisichella said “Person, as well as a pilot, of very different character. I had a great relationship with Schumi: we have a passion for football and at least 2-3 games of the national drivers always played. We shared track, football, dinners, karaoke: too bad it ended up that we know, fate is sometimes cruel and I also think about what happened to Alessandro Zanardi.” [Translated via Google]

Mick Schumacher is a great driver. However, the German wasn’t able to perform that well in his first season and got booted from the Haas team. Mick has loads of pressure as he’s carrying the Schumacher name with himself. Nonetheless, Toto Wolff advised that Guenther Steiner didn’t treat Mick well enough and that if Michael Schumacher would’ve been in the paddock then nobody would have dared to treat Mick in the same way.
