The life of a Ferrari driver after just three races in the record 23-race calendar is full of dismay. The Italian team has had the worst start to a season for the first time since 2009. Drivers are partly to blame, especially Carlos Sainz for his race result in Australia. The unforced error in Australia showcases a side of the Spaniard that experts believes is the most frustrating aspect of his racing.

Sainz is currently living his dream by being part of the prestigious Ferrari team. He even pledged his loyalties to the team after being liked with a move away from Maranello. The Spaniard definitely has the quality to wear the Ferrari colors proudly. However, as discussed on ESPN’s Unlapped podcast, there is a side of Sainz that is extremely frustrating despite his fascinating driving.

Discussing his disastrous race in Australia, one of the hosts said, “Yes, he’s been stewing over it for two and a bit weeks now. You can’t imagine it’s going to be that good. As we mentioned, in the sprint race, you need to go into that race with quite a clear head.”

However, the host is interrupted by the other, who says, “No, not really. He is kind of a fascinating driver, frustrating driver as well because he seems to have a good race, really good races, every so often. Then you’ll see two or three races where he’s just not really there. I wonder why that is with him. I wonder if it comes down to mental approach or just the confidence thing.”

The inconsistent results are exactly what is harming Sainz’s chances of winning a championship, ever. In fact, inconsistency also reflects poorly on the team and is the reason why he is being linked with a move away.

Although, the Spaniard still has trust in himself and the team, despite the poor start.

Carlos Sainz puts faith back into Ferrari to bounce back despite the worst start since 2009

The Spaniard is partly to blame for the team’s worst start to the season. However, one cannot ignore the poor state of the SF-23 as well. Ferrari’s 2023 challenger is well below the expectations of the team. In fact, after the first three races, it’s clear Ferrari is currently running fourth fastest on the grid.

However, while speaking to the media, Sainz put his trust in his team to bounce back.

He said, “You have to work hard at the factory in Maranello, bring improvements to get back on the podium and fight for victory. The objectives are clear; come back to the podium as soon as possible and win again.”

However, despite the obvious shortcomings, the Spaniard believes they can sneak in a win on a particular race weekend.
