It’s been a while since Fernando Alonso celebrated a race win in Formula 1. The last time the Spaniard stood on the top spot of the podium was in the 2013 Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona. Since then, Alonso has been climbing the podium positions occasionally. However, Alonso wants to do more than just win races with his new team, Aston Martin.

The Spanish driver was the first person to beat the legendary Michael Schumacher and end his title dominance. He has been one of the most tenacious and aggressive F1 drivers. However, that was way back in 2006 and Alonso plans on doing something similar with Aston Martin in recent years as well.

The former Alpine driver announced that he was going to replace Sebastian Vettel at Aston Martin and shocked the world. Consequently, Alonso is going there to help the Silverstone team become the world champions.

Fernando stated, “I love what I do. Of course I would like to have a car that I can drive for the title. But there is no place for me there. From what was out there, Aston Martin is one of those teams that can achieve that goal in 2, 3 years.”

He then added, “That’s important at my age. I don’t have forever. As long as there’s only a one percent chance of winning the title again, I’ll keep going.”

Fernando will plan to hit the ground running next season and help Aston Martin fight against the mid-table constructors in the championship.

Aston Martin’s Team Principal says everyone happy to have Fernando Alonso on the team

Mike Krack, Team-Principal of Aston Martin Racing said Fernando Alonso has left a lasting impression on everyone in his first outing with the team. The Spaniard had a day’s testing for Aston Martin in Abu Dhabi last week as he prepared to leave Alpine at the start of next season.

Krack said, “With Fernando, I always hold up this picture of [this year’s] Mexican Grand Prix of his frustration at not having finished seventh [because the car broke down]. This is an example of dedication and motivation.

He further added, “So if you have someone with this with this passion and drive to win, it has an impact on the team. And we could clearly see that everybody was really happy to have this guy in the car last Tuesday.”

Alonso, who was beaten by teammate Esteban Ocon, finished the season by P9 in the WDC. The former Ferrari driver will hope to climb up the pecking order with the Silverstone outfit.
