Ferrari gave their all at their home race in Monza. However, it was not enough as Max Verstappen and Red Bull won the race, despite a late safety car. It was the Dutchman’s 5th successive win and 11th of the season.

Many expected Ferrari to be challenging Red Bull for the title this year. However, after a positive start to the new season, their problems kept building up and their title challenge slowly faded away. Sam Bird, Formula E driver, believes there is a pattern where Ferrari starts the season well and it fades away in the mid season.

He also believes that Ferrari has let down Charles Leclerc‘s title hopes the same way they did with Sebastian Vettel in 2016. Bird said, “Ferrari unfortunately have fallen away in a year that looked so promising, they’ve done it before when Sebastian Vettel drove for them quite a few years ago, I think it was 2016, 2017.”

“They looked promising in 2019, again this year they looked promising but they just, they don’t seem to have that ability to continue the development mid-phase through the season, and also mistakes are in there.”

Bird concluded that Ferrari have made mistakes that have been exposed numerous times this season. It has also cost their drivers potential points, podiums and even race wins.

Ferrari boss Binotto claims FIA ‘need to do a better job’ following the Safety Car incident in Monza

Mattia Binotto was not happy with FIA’s decision to conclude the race under the Safety car. The Ferrari boss feels there was more than enough time for FIA to clear the track and resume the race for the final lap, at least.

The Italian said“A bit disappointed for the ending because I think we could have finished differently the race. Finishing behind the Safety Car is never great – not for us, or for F1, for the show.”

“And I think there was plenty of time for the FIA to act differently today.”

He further explained his disappointment, stating, “If they are simply waiting for safety, we know now there is a minimum lap time for cars who are released, so it’s fully safe to run on the track at that time. So, to wait so much, it’s simply wrong and it’s not great for the sport.”
