Nico Hulkenberg started his F1 career with Williams back in 2010. In 2011 and 2012, he raced for Force India and later rejoined them in 2014, after a year at Sauber in 2013. Nico’s last raced at Renault for 3 seasons from 2017 to 2019. However, the Enstone team decided to drop Hulkenberg for the 2020 season and signed up Esteban Ocon.
The German stepped in as a substitute driver for Racing Point (formerly Force India) in 2020 in three races at Silverstone and Nurburgring. Since then, Hulkenberg has been the reserve driver for Aston Martin (renamed from Racing Point) in the last 2 seasons. He substituted Sebastian Vettel in the first two races of 2022 in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia when Vettel was down due to COVID.

It will be quite ironic to see Daniel Ricciardo out of a seat in 2023 while his former teammate will race for Haas. Quite the turn of events!

Such a disgrace. Hulkenberg is a meh driver and always has been. He is not bad for sure, but also not good. And more importantly, he doesn't have room to improve

If a 35-year-old can get a seat after 4 years away from full time on the grid, but the F2 champion has zero shot at a seat, there’s either:
A. Not enough seats and we need to allow new teams on the grid to bring in young talent
OR
B. The current system of hiring drivers is 🗑

At the age of 35, Hulkenberg once again has got an opportunity to prove his mettle in F1. Though it has come at the expense of Mick Schumacher, who had a roller coaster of a 2022 season. Haas Team Principal Guenther Steiner has been saying that they are looking for experience and consistency in their drivers. Thus, Mick Schumacher has not fallen into their scheme of things for 2023.
