Usually, pre-season tests don’t really throw up too many memorable moments. Teams and drivers just prefer to concentrate on getting information about the new car, with everything else coming in at P2.
However, every now and then there is a moment for fans to savor. That moment during this year’s pre-season testing was when Fernando Alonso passed Lewis Hamilton on Day 2. When asked about the viral move, Alonso was rather nonchalant.
The 2-time World Champion didn’t hype up the moment nor did he say that it indicated the performance of Alpine or himself. He simply spoke about having to work harder and being prepared to hit the ground running when the season begins.

He said, (translated via Google), “We had some good training sessions. We are focused on our training. work program and you do not give much importance to the times or to the rivals.
“We lack work, to understand some things about the car. The performance that we see in Enstone must be unlocked on the track. We will try to give a show. Little by little.”
For Alonso, the pre-season tests were especially important. The Spaniard has been out of F1 for 3 years now, and although he dipped his toes into the waters of alternative motorsports, jumping back into the cockpit of an F1 car and performing from the get-go is no small task.
But with a decent amount of laps under his belt, and the rust finally off him, he is eager for the lights to go out.
Fernando Alonso excited to be back racing in F1
The Alpine F1 driver said, “I am happy and I am looking forward to the first races. I am going to squeeze every lap. I arrive with a very relaxed staging, wanting to enjoy each moment.

“I’m ready for action, the excitement of the first corners…”
Alonso will have a tough job in his hand when it comes to replicating the kind of performances Daniel Ricciardo pulled out for the team last year. He has already admitted that the French team aren’t the strongest going around.

Moreover, a super-strong mid-field wouldn’t make his job any easier. But if there is anyone who can beat the odds and come out on top, it is the Spanish F1 legend.
