Jamie Chadwick was crowned the women’s champion for the third year running after the final 3 races of the year were suspended. The F1 grid last saw a woman driver more than 46 years ago in the form of Italian driver Lella Lombardi.
But things seem to be changing for the better for the upcoming and aspiring female drivers. F1 is reportedly set to announce its new all-female junior development academy.
Adam Stern tweeted on his Twitter account, “@F1 today is announcing its new all-female junior developmental series called F1 Academy that will start in 2023 with 15 cars and a 21-race schedule and is designed to help get women drivers to W Series, F3, F2 and F1.”
“F1 will subsidize each race car with $155,000”
The news certainly brings hope for aspiring female drivers wanting to contest in F1 one day. Furthermore, the FIA is taking the right steps in the right direction with such positive initiatives.

Lewis said in the press conference before US GP, “There has not been enough focus on women in sport the whole of Formula 1’s life, and there’s not enough emphasis on it now. They’re not magnifying enough the great work that is being done there. There is not enough representation across the board, within the industry.”
He further mentioned, ” And there’s not really a pathway for those young, amazing drivers to even get to Formula 1. You have some people who say we’re never going to see a female F1 driver ever, so that’s not a good narrative to be putting out.”
