The 2021 season is finally over and the 2022 season is about to start. You’re eagerly waiting to see if Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton can challenge for the title, but Ferrari comes in with the surprise. However, that didn’t last long as after the first quarter of races, Red Bull took charge. With another unsuccessful campaign in 2023, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz are finally in for a treat as rumors of Ferrari eliminating structural defects reveal themselves. What is it all about?

Ferrari began the 2023 season with hopes of challenging for the title with the new and improved SF-23. However, it wasn’t meant to be as Red Bull and Max Verstappen’s uncanny dominance was too much for any team. Although the SF-23 did show glimpses of pace during the season, it was plagued with other issues that held Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz back. Sainz’s win in Singapore (the only non-Red Bull win) is proof of Ferrari’s underlying pace.

While Leclerc and Sainz did steal some pole positions away from the Red Bulls, it was Ferrari’s terrible tire wear that hampered them in the races. And even though Ferrari seemed to have taken care of the issue in the second half, they just seemed to have underlying issues, stopping the Scuderia drivers from reaching their full potential. However, Leo Turrini has now come out suggesting that Ferrari has eliminated the structural problems with their 2024 competitor.

As per Quotidiano.net, Leo Turrini said, In Ferrari they are convinced that they have eliminated the structural defects of the last car. They worked a lot on suspension, weight distribution, overall package management depending on tire wear. The goal, whatever is said to the unveiling of the creature, will not be the World Cup.” He further added, “The reasonable goal is to win at least five races, giving a sense of a turnaround. Then, if you start well, things can change: but no one invents anything and it is better to calibrate ambitions on factual reality.”

Ferrari is back? Rory Byrne in control of Project 676

After a disappointing 2022 and the first half of 2023, Mercedes decided to make big strides and got James Allison back in the driver’s seat for the development of their car. Ferrari has played a similar card by bringing Rory Byrne back to help with the development of Ferrari’s 2024 competitor. Rory Byrne was the man responsible for the Ferraris that brought Michael Schumacher the early 2000s success.

From what we know about the Ferrari to date, it is believed that the Project 676 is going to be 95% new compared to the SF-23. Ferrari is believed to have introduced the downwash style side pods that featured on the AMR23 with the front wing taking inspiration from the Red Bull. Another concern in 2023 was the operating window of the SF-23, which is believed to be sorted for the upcoming car.
