In 2025, Charles Leclerc will link up with yet another multiple F1 champion. This time around, he is partnering with none other than Lewis Hamilton, who is making the switch to Ferrari from Mercedes. In light of the news, many fans were thrilled at the prospect of two highly talented drivers locking horns. Most believe that this is a chance for Hamilton to clinch that record-breaking eighth F1 title. However, former F1 driver Rene Arnoux has backed Ferrari stalwart Leclerc to have the measure of the Briton.

The Monegasque driver has been in Formula One since 2018 and moved to Scuderia Ferrari in 2019. Right off the bat, he proved himself as a capable driver and kept teammate Sebastian Vettel on his toes. After Vettel left, he linked up with Carlos Sainz Jr and 2024 will be their final season as teammates before Hamilton comes in. During his tenure, Leclerc established himself as Ferrari’s future, but with Lewis Hamilton coming in, will he be a threat?

Hamilton is highly gifted, and his 7 Formula One world champions are proof of it. However, he is now heading to a team that has already found its star and will be very hard to displace as the numero uno. To that end, ex-Ferrari driver Rene Arnoux firmly believes that Leclerc will not be a pushover. He also thinks that Leclerc’s age will be a significant advantage, as Lewis Hamilton will be 40 when he joins Ferrari.

He told Gazzetta dello Sport, “Charles wants to win at least one World Championship with Ferrari. He wasted time with Binotto, but he stayed in Maranello. Leclerc’s talent today for me is far superior to Hamilton’s at his age. It is true that experience is important, but Leclerc also has a lot of it now. That’s why I don’t think he took the news badly: he knows Lewis is a certain age.”
