Who is the hottest driver in the F1 market going and where is he going? Of course, we’re talking about the guy nicknamed Chili, Carlos Sainz. Red Bull, Mercedes, and even Aston Martin. The Spaniard was linked to all these teams, but those seats have gone now. But it seems like the 2025 F1 future decision is imminent as Carlos Sainz is rumored to be discussing contract details with Williams, just hours after he crashed in probable 2025 teammate Alex Albon.
Audi and Williams are the two realistic options left for Carlos Sainz after Red Bull announced Sergio Perez and Toto Wolff revealed Kimi Antonelli as his priority. James Vowles during the Canadian GP weekend has been vocal about Carlos Sainz being his preferential choice, suggesting it was up to the Spaniard to make the decision and it looks like he has made up his mind.
🚨| The signing of Carlos Sainz to Williams is “very close”, as per Julien Febreau on Canal+.
There is currently "an agreement/common desire" between the two parties to work together next year, and details of the contract are “under discussion”.

According to F1 journalist and commentator Julien Fabreau while on CANAL+ during the Canadian GP, he advised that Carlos Sainz is “very close” to signing for James Vowles and Co. It was suggested that the Spaniard and Williams are in unison regarding the wish of working together. However, the details of the contract are yet to be finalized and are being discussed.
Unfortunately, during the 2024 Canadian GP, Sainz had to retire from the race and took the innocent bystander Alex Albon with him. The Ferrari driver in the final quarter of the race dipped his tire onto the damp patch, spun around, and collected Alex Albon, who tried dodging but wasn’t successful. The Williams driver ended up in the wall while Sainz continued, but eventually retired his car.
With Albon announcing his extension with Williams a few weeks ago, a possible team up with Sainz will make Williams one of the strongest driver lineups. Let’s see what James Vowles had to say about signing Carlos Sainz.

James Vowles reveals Carlos Sainz is at the “top” of Williams’ list
Anyone will be fortunate to have Carlos Sainz as their driver. We’re not implying it, James Vowles is as he explained that Carlos Sainz is the No.1 target for him. The Spaniard was the only non-Red Bull driver to win a race last year and the first non-Red Bull driver to win this year. While Charles Leclerc has been in the headlines recently because of the Monaco win, Sainz wasn’t far off the pace of the Monegasque.
Explaining who’d partner Alexander Albon for 2025, James Vowles said, “The shortlist is two drivers, simple as that, of which I think we’ve been very open on discussing who’s very much at the top of our list. But it’s now determining what we can do to find a match with, in this circumstance, Carlos, who I think is an incredible driver, he’s a race-winning driver – he’s one that, last year, above all others was able to find his way through. But it’s his choice as to where he wants to go to.”
