Crossovers between the world of F1 and entertainment have considerably increased. Over 99% of them are intentional crossovers. The less than 1% of them that are unintentional make for some hilarious interactions and meme templates. Now the latest of them is an F1 prodigy accidentally but flawlessly executing the classic ‘Jim’ expression that John Krasinski made famous.

All ‘The Office’ fans gather! If you know nothing about F1, don’t worry. Here’s some valuable context. At the Austrian GP race weekend this year, there was a rather unusual entertainment tactic employed. A man with mastery over a real jetpack was sent out flying above the racetrack. Maybe mastery is the wrong word used here because midway through his lap, a mishap caused him to fall out of the sky and onto the track.

More than the mishap itself, it was rookie Oscar Piastri‘s reaction in the McLaren garage that went viral. Even the manager of the official F1 Twitter handle couldn’t hold back from making the ‘Jim’ reference. F1 captioned the post: “Oscar Piastri nailing ‘The Office’ camera look after this jet-pack mishap!😂 Glad to see the jet-pack flier in good spirits after too😊”. While no one asked Piastri about that expression on the weekend, he has finally spilled the beans on that in a recent interview.

Speaking to F1 YouTubers Matt Gallagher & Tom Bellingham, Piastri said, “I had the cameraman in there, on my face, before it starts actually filming. Soon as the jetpack man fell out of the sky, I was like this is definitely going onto me. So, I kind of look at the camera to see if it’s on or not – look back at the screen. And then it goes to me and I was like, I can’t just sit here and not do anything because it’s pretty obvious I’ve seen this guy fall out of the sky. I was hoping he was okay but it was pretty spectacular.”

This is probably the first crossover between F1 and ‘The Office’. If this is how the tone is set, future crossovers are more than welcomed (without the accidents, of course). This was the first of two unintended F1 x Entertainment crossovers. The 2nd one was Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc getting linked up with Greta Gerwig’s Barbie.

In F1, Ferrari is one team that is known as a menace for their drivers. With poor strategic decisions, their drivers’ races are being spoilt for no fault for theirs. And the man facing the brunt of it all for the last 4 years is Charles Leclerc. Right before Margot Robbie’s Barbie was released in theatres, an F1 fan caught hold of something that made for some humorous moments on Twitter.

That fan got their hands on a special Barbie x Ferrari collection. While one of the dolls was dressed in Ferrari’s racing outfit, the other was dressed in a Ferrari-branded jacket and skirt. However, it was the defective eye of the latter that drew comparisons between the doll’s and Leclerc’s dismal state at Ferrari. Fans had a ball in the comments section under that post as the comparisons got more hilarious as you scrolled down.

Judging by these 2 instances, all fans would love to have more of such unintended collaborations. And since none of them have been in a bad light, Krasinski and Robbie probably won’t seem to mind it either.
