F1 returned after a 2-week hiatus at Singapore. The Grand Prix turned out to be quite an eventful race due to a wet race track. The race had a delayed start owing to a heavy downpour, resulting in a lot of drivers struggling for pace. There were a few incidents of drivers crashing into the barriers, but Tsunoda’s crash particularly caught the fans’ eye.

AlphaTauri driver Yuki Tsunoda failed to slow down his car in turn 10 during the 36th lap of the race. As a result, he crashed into the barriers. It would have been just another crash, but what soon followed after the crash has given fans ample material to make memes about.

Whenever there is a crash, you see a yellow flag, double yellow flags, or a red flag being waved, depending on the severity of the crash. However, just after the Japanese driver crashed into the barriers, the nearest steward waved a green flag. Now, you may think that must have been a mistake from the steward, but as it turns out, he was correct.

The warning flags (yellow, double yellow, or red) are waved before the place of the incident in the sector. But the track after the incident is considered to be safe to race on.

The steward waving the green flag was, in fact, stationed right after the corner where the Tsunoda crash took place. Therefore, he was right in waving the green flag.

Some fans, however, had a fun little moment before others pointed out the steward was doing his job correctly.

There were also fans who pointed out that the steward did his job well.

Some fans did realize that the steward was correct but saw why it was funny.

How did the rest of the F1 race pan out?

The race after Tsunoda’s crash got even more interesting as drivers kept having incidents of either going off the track or crashing into the barriers. Soon after Tsunoda’s crash, Verstappen locked up and went into the run-off area. This happened when the Dutch driver anticipated the safety car to go in as he leaped in to overtake Lando Norris for P4.

Later, George Russell turned into Mick Schumacher, resulting in a puncture for the Brit. Russell and Schumacher both had to pit as Schumacher too had some damage.
