A smiling Charles Leclerc introduced himself in the Netflix docuseries Driver to Survive, stating he has the longest contract in the history of Scuderia Ferrari. However, the stay at Maranello hasn’t turned out as dreamy as it was expected. Like many times before, the Italian team choked and couldn’t claim the championship. And this year the team is running overall fourth in the constructors with bad luck not seeming to leave. With this spell, many have claimed that Leclerc may move to Mercedes. Italian Journalist, Robert Chinchero gives an insight.
Charles Leclerc has had the worst outing in the history of Ferrari drivers. From crashes to DNF’s 2023 has been proving to be a nightmare for the man who dreamed of claiming the championship last year and is now being defeated by everyone left and right. This miserable synergy has drawn questions regarding Leclerc’s stay at the team with some rumors even pointing towards rivals. While Toto Wolff has denied the rumors, wanting to stick with Lewis Hamilton, Chinchero gives an insight.
As quoted by Formula1.it, Chinchero said, “The renewal? I think the negotiations will start towards the end of the summer. I think he will renew even if he’s happy. But many aren’t at the moment: do you think Hamilton is? Russell? Sainz?”

Charles Leclerc is an extremely talented driver who has had way too many crashes. His crashes in the races and qualifying have taken a toll on an already struggling Ferrari. While most people have called out Ferrari, many have called the Monegasque driver immature as well. Chinchero has a reply for people who have called out Leclerc.
He said, “You don’t have to tell him it’s immaturity, it’s a scientific question. He knows he’s taking risks, he’s not naïve, and he always tries to give his all, knowing what he’s doing. His is a scientific choice. Now is the best time to do it, when he’s not fighting for the world championship. If Ferrari becomes the second force permanently, then things will change. Even if Leclerc were in Alonso‘s place, he couldn’t do it anymore.”
