Lewis Hamilton has had a difficult start to the 2022 season. The Britton has struggled with his W-13, which has not been the quickest car on the grid. However, last weekend at Silverstone saw a massive improvement from the Britton. Hamilton, at one point, was nearly contesting for the race win; ending his home race with the fastest lap.

However, instead of giving credit where credit was due, it was Hamilton’s car that was handed all the plaudits. At the driver’s press conference ahead of the Austrian GP, a reporter told Hamilton, “By some measure you were the fastest car at Silverstone..”.
However, Hamilton did not let that slide as he quickly quipped, “Driver you mean”. The fans have loved this response from Hamilton and gone wild on Twitter in his support.

However, there were, as usual, some naysayers against the 7 time champion. They had their own opinion on the matter.
Not sure how you measure ‘fastest driver’. Alonso p5 and Mick p7 were much more impressive results than Hamilton beating a Ferrari on old hard tyres. https://t.co/Y7YsQxFdzO

where was the driver in the past 10 races? when it was out of q2 it was the car, when the team brings updates to improve it is the driver, LOL

Some fans broke it down from a technical perspective to back their opinions.
With the same reasoning, Merc has the clear 3rd fastest car. Of the 4 faster cars, 3 had damage. And his team mate crashed out on the first lap.
So Hamilton is the best driver in the race because he overtook a damaged car on old hards when he was on fresh softs.

Whatever the case, it was a splendid driver from Hamilton. The Britton had a great outing and a podium to show for it. This makes it two podiums in two races for Hamilton. After this string of performances, he will be hopeful of his chances this weekend in Austria as well.
Lewis Hamilton ponders upon amazing British GP

Although it is still far from the standards Hamilton has grown so accustomed to, he took away a lot of positives from the race. Lewis said, “I think it’s hugely encouraging that we were in the fight”. He added, “We had an upgrade and I think the race pace was definitely improved”.
However, the Mercedes star remained realistic about his chances of a win this season. He said, “I don’t think we’re in a winning position yet. But we’re not far away.”. He will hope that they get into the winning position sooner rather than later.
