British driver George Russell has been on the news lately. The Mercedes driver to have his name in GB4 series from 2022. This has because the series has introduced a “Russell Pole Position Award” in the honor of George, who is also known as Mr. Saturday for his breathtaking performances on Saturday qualifying.

GB4 is the Formula series that takes place in the United Kingdom. The series had its name as British Formula 4 before it was renamed GB4 lately on.

George and the organizer of the award John Cavill have been in touch regarding the implementation of this award. With the new name, the series will have an increased amount of prize money as compared to earlier days. The prize money was increased from 1000 Euros to 4000 Euros.

Russell who was a winner of this award in 2014 has claimed this award and went on to win the BRDC F4 Championship in 2014. Talking about this, the Mercedes driver has conveyed, “John Cavill has been so supportive of me from the very first days of racing and has become a familiar face to me since the season I won the BRDC F4 Championship in 2014.”

Winning the BRDC F4 Championship in 2014 was very important to my career, I don’t think I would be where I am today without him. I am confident that the current young drivers will be given the same opportunities GB4 gave me back then. I can’t wait to congratulate the ‘2022 George Russell Pole Position Trophy’ winner at the end of the year!”, the former Williams driver further stated.

Winning the 2014 trophy was a confidence boost for the Briton. Ever since that day, Russell has made quite a name for himself. He’s indeed the third most popular active British racer after Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris.

However, it’s not just about the fame. The 24-year-old has signed a multi-million dollar agreement with Mercedes and made a name for himself. The German team has full faith in him as they brought him to replace much successful Valtteri Bottas. This shows the capability George has in him.
