The long-awaited 2022 season of the Formula got underway on Sunday in Bahrain. The race did not disappoint as Charles Leclerc cruised to a victory. However, the Grand Prix saw several twists and turns during the 57-laps under the lights. Lewis Hamilton secured an improbable podium as Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen were forced to retire.


The Seven-Time World Champion celebrated a record-breaking day at the Bahrain Grand Prix. F1 fans on Reddit took a hilarious jibe at Perez, who hit engine trouble on the last lap. They accused Hamilton was using the ‘force’ as a video showing the Mexican’s spin in front of the Mercedes driver was revealed.

A comment under the post hysterically said, “So it turns out Mercedes spent their whole budget on a Red Bull force field.”

And a reply under the comment read, “Empire strikes back” citing the Star Wars movies.

Another fan suggested that Carlos Sainz left the banana peel on the track in relation to the popular video game Mario Kart. The comment stated, “Sainz leaving that banana peel.” 

Earlier Lewis Hamilton revealed his plans on being more aggressive during the race this season. So, a fan felt that the British driver took out Perez while trying to make a move.

The fans certainly enjoyed the return of Formula 1 action and will hope for more drama in the coming weeks.

Christian Horner on Red Bull’s disappointment

Red Bull endured a disastrous start to the season. Max Verstappen had constant issues regarding his steering and in the end, he had to retire the car due to suspected fuel pump issues. And the misfortune hit again as Sergio Perez also retired with the same issues. To add insult to their woes, Mercedes took home crucial points after a week where they struggled with problems themselves.

Christian Horner admits the team was disappointed with the result. He said, “It’s hugely disappointing, not only to lose a podium with Max, but then also to lose a podium with Checo [Perez] as well. We need to get on top of the issue and come back next weekend.”
