Lewis Hamilton and ex-teammate Valtteri Bottas are closer than ever. But not only as friends. They’re also closer than ever in the driver’s championship points table. After Formula 1 posted the driver’s points table on Twitter, post the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, there was an out-pour of reactions on Twitter. Bottas is close to Lewis on the points table. And the fans can’t contain their feelings.

Lewis Hamilton is being chased by Bottas

Lewis and Valtteri were teammates for five years before Bottas moved to Alfa Romeo. In those five years, Bottas gave up his position a few times for Lewis. But Bottas never chased him down on the points table. However, things have changed drastically for both Lewis and Valtteri. Now Hamilton is struggling with Mercedes and Valtteri is settling well in his Alfa Romeo.

With Lewis just at 28 points in the driver’s championship. Bottas is right on his heel with 24 points. A situation nobody could’ve predicted at the start of 2022.

But as things stand, Lewis and Bottas are closer than ever. And to rub salt on Lewis’ wound. Lewis is seventh on the table. A situation the seven-time world champion would not like to see himself in.

With Mercedes’s current situation, things will not change anytime soon unless drastic measures are taken. In Toto’s own words, the Mercedes car is “undrivable”, which is also the reason behind these consecutive poor performances.

The fans on Twitter are loving the irony of the situation. Ever since Bottas moved to Alfa Romeo, questions were being asked about his future. But Bottas with powerful performances in all but one race of the season is changing people’s perspectives.

Say what you will about Valtteri Bottas. He’s always been a consistent driver. No matter the car or the team, deep down, fans knew he will perform. And the proof is right in front of us.
