The McLaren move has not been going as Daniel Ricciardo would have planned it to go. The Honey Badger has failed to shine in the Papaya outfit, and his teammate Lando Norris has vastly outperformed him. After the latest interaction between Ricciardo and McLaren after his crash in Monaco FP2, Ricciardo’s future at the Woking base seems a bit uncertain.

The English constructors announced Ricciardo as a big superstar signing who would help them fight for titles. But the Honey Badger never really stood up to those expectations. He only won the Monza race last season while Norris dominated the Aussie on most occasions. They hoped Daniel would find the pace in 2022 with the new car, but he is still failing to shine.
Now, it seems McLaren has started to give up on the 32-year-old. McLaren CEO Zak Brown already mentioned Riccardo is failing to meet the expectations. And at the Monaco GP, after Ricciardo crashed into the wall during Friday’s second practice, the English constructors seemed more concerned about the MCL36 than Ricciardo.

Fans react to Daniel Ricciardo and McLaren’s radio conversation
As soon as the fans heard the radio conversation between the Australian and his team, there were rumors about Ricciardo’s transfer. Fans are stating that Ricciardo will lose his seat at Woking for the 2023 season. Some fans even speculated on a mid-season swap in 2022. They even compare Ricciardo’s situation to Sebastian Vettel’s during his last years in Ferrari.

Soon after Twitter got heated up with the interaction between Daniel and his team, a full version of the conversation came out. It revealed that the McLaren engineer didn’t notice that Ricciardo had crashed. So, he later asked the Australian about his welfare and said the car didn’t receive significant damages. The fans eventually cooled down at Woking base.

I know he’s underperformed, but I feel bad for him and that radio message is just wrong from his engineer. Good on him for his immediate response back
