The Saudi Arabian Grand Prix is underway as Sergio Perez started off the race perfectly. Only 18 cars started in the race, with Lewis Hamilton starting P15 after a horrendous qualifying. And Yuki Tsunoda’s engine problems meant he was out of the race before the formation lap. However, Nicholas Latifi’s crash has brought a new light to the race after the introduction of the safety car.

Sergio Perez was leading comfortably, followed by Charles Leclerc. Ferrari gave team orders to pit to undercut the race leader as Red Bull also instructed Perez to pit. Hence, the Mexican pitted first. However, many suspect that Leclerc and his team baited Red Bull as the Monegasque continued with the race and took the lead. Following this, Latifi in the Williams lost balance and crashed, bringing the full safety car out and therefore providing an immense advantage to Leclerc and Ferrari.
This is not the first time Latifi’s crash has changed the course of the race. The infamous Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in 2021 was another race where the Williams driver’ crash bought out the safety car. The fans will not forget what happened next as Michael Masi’s controversial decision to let the lapped cars between race leader Hamilton and Verstappen unlap themselves. Twitter did not go easy on the Canadian amid some hilarious reactions.

Perez feels the Jeddah circuit is dangerous
Meanwhile, on the track, Sergio Perez chose the worst time to pit as Leclerc passes him to take the lead. The Red Bull driver will hope to bounce back after an unfortunate pit stop. Earlier, Perez stuck out one of the best laps of his career and finished on the pole. However, he, along with many drivers, has criticized the Jeddah circuit for being too dangerous. The Mexican said, “I think it’s definitely the most dangerous place in the calendar. There’s no secret about it. If you get it wrong, it can be a huge accident.”
