F1 Driver Blatantly Called Out Mercedes for Protecting Lewis Hamilton, Riling up Toto Wolff to a Hectic Response

Lewis Hamilton is one of the most hated drivers in the world because of his superior driving and winning attitude. Many people envy the 7-time champion because of all his achievements and titles. Furthermore, a few also think that the titles give Lewis an unfair advantage while racing.

Romain Grosjean has one of the worst track records involving accidents in F1. Described by Mark Webber as a “first-lap nutcase”, the former Haas driver broke the 18-year-long record for a driver getting a race ban in 2012.

However, he had some strong words to say after the qualifying session of the British GP in 2017. He believed Hamilton’s title battle with Sebastian Vettel let him escape any sanctions from the FIA for impeding him in Q3.

“I know that there is a World title going on at the front but we are in a position where we actually fight as hard as the boys at the front and I was impeded,” said Grosjean.

The Frenchman further added, “Maybe if it was another driver the sanction would have been something and it does feel sometimes like there are two types of decisions.”

Toto Wolff came out in Hamilton’s defense with a stern reply. The Austrian said, “If Romain Grosjean comes out and starts asking for penalties for other drivers, you should rather look at his track record. He should be happy he is driving in Formula 1.”

A lot has happened since then as Lewis Hamilton added 3 titles to his name and missed out on 1 in a controversial sense. However, he endured a difficult season this year as he didn’t win a single race.

Lewis Hamilton not concerned about missing out on a race win this season

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton’s 15-year-long record of winning a race in every season he has participated came to an end in 2022. Mercedes could only win one race all season long. However, the 103-race winner is not concerned about the record.

Hamilton told ESPN, “Honestly, it would have been nice to have a win, but one win is not really enough is it? I feel like this year, when we got our first fifth, it felt like a win. When we got our first fourth, it felt like a win.”

The Mercedes man further added, “When we got our first podium, it felt like a win and those seconds felt like as if we really achieved something, so I’ll just hold on to those.”
